Family Days to celebrate this month include: Million Minute Family Challenge Month (began in September, ends in December), German-American Day, Filipino American Heritage Month,  Hispanic Heritage Month (began 9/15 ends 10/15), Italian-American Heritage Month, Polish-American Heritage Month, Mother-in Law Day, Child Health Day, Take Your Parents to Lunch Day, and Eat Better, Eat Together Month. And don’t forget your family members birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions.

In October we celebrate the men, women and families of the U. S. Navy with the Navy birthday and Navy Day. (The United States Navy was originally established on 13 October 1775. Navy Day was originally sponsored by the Navy League 1922, and is designed to give recognition to the naval service. The Navy League of New York proposed that the official observance of Navy Day be on October 27 in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday.)

And Sweetest Day is celebrated this month…although there’s no concensus on why it’s celebrated. Some say it’s a day to recognize that sweet and special someone in your life—no matter who they are or what relation they are to you. Others say it’s just another day to eat sweets. So lets do both.

Following is our list of fun days to turn into great family time this month. On days that celebrate foods, incorporate them into your meals and show the kids how it’s made. On dates with activities, incorporate them into your daily routine or special activity for the day. On all other days have a discussion, do some research, discover something new about the day. Make a game of it, get the whole family involved, and make lasting memories!!!
